Ghostly Secrets Unravel in ‘Campton Manor’

Campton Manor horror

Campton Manor, the latest horror thriller from director Cat Hostick, is set to premiere on Vudu TVOD on May 7, inviting audiences into a terrifying world of psychological suspense and spectral encounters.
The film stars Shawn Roberts, Jason London, and Kenneth Welsh, and is penned by Stephin Wallis, known for The Performance.

Set against the eerie backdrop of an abandoned manor with a dark past, Campton Manor follows Teddy, an author and spiritualist adept in the paranormal. The film’s plot thickens as Teddy delves into the shadowy history of the ‘Campton Ball’ incident—a mysterious event that claimed several lives under enigmatic circumstances decades ago. Choosing to spend the night at the manor on the anniversary of the tragedy, Teddy finds himself ensnared in a ghost story of his own making.

The haunting setting of the film, a mansion in Oro-Medonte, Ontario, known as the Woodlands estate, plays a central role in building the film’s chilling atmosphere. This grand Victorian Gothic cottage, once owned by Titanic survivor Major Arthur Peuchen, enhances the film’s ghostly narrative with its historic allure and rumored paranormal activity.

Director Cat Hostick captured the film in 2018, drawing inspiration from the property’s unique features and eerie history. “The wallpaper even had that very unique [design] which is very hard to find. It was just really creepy,” Hostick noted about the mansion. The choice of location was pivotal, not only for its aesthetic but also for the strange occurrences reported during filming, adding a layer of authenticity to the haunted tale.

Campton Manor has already received lots of attention on the festival circuit, winning awards at several film festivals, including the Florence International Film Festival for Best Thriller and the Atlantic Film Festival for Best Director. The film promises to engage horror lovers and film critics with its intricate narrative and strong performances.

As Campton Manor makes its digital debut, we’re looking forward to encountering the spirits that linger within its walls. Check it out from May 7.
