“Lisa Frankenstein” Trailer Reveals a Quirky Spin on a Gothic Classic

Focus Features has unveiled the trailer for Lisa Frankenstein, a vibrant and offbeat reimagining of the classic Frankenstein tale, set to hit theaters on February 9, 2024. Helmed by Zelda Williams in her feature directorial debut and penned by Diablo Cody, the film injects a fresh, teen-centric twist into the legendary story.
Lisa Frankenstein stars Kathryn Newton as the titular character, Lisa, and Cole Sprouse as her resurrected love interest, a handsome corpse from the Victorian era. The film’s plot revolves around Lisa Swallows, a misunderstood goth teenager in 1989, who, during a lightning storm, brings a corpse back to life. Using a broken tanning machine in her garage, she starts to rebuild him into her ideal partner. The narrative follows the duo’s darkly humorous journey in search of love, happiness, and the odd missing body part.
The film’s cast includes Liza Soberano, Henry Eikenberry, Joe Chrest, and Carla Gugino, each adding their unique flair to this quirky horror comedy. The trailer showcases a mix of candy-coloured ’80s aesthetics and gothic elements, underlined by sharp dialogue and engaging performances, particularly from Newton and Sprouse.

Lisa Frankenstein is Diablo Cody’s first project since the 2018 film “Tully.” Her collaboration with Williams, noted for directing music videos and short films, marks a significant pairing in the industry, promising a distinct blend of Cody’s renowned narrative style and Williams’ visual flair.
The release of Lisa Frankenstein is timely, landing just before Valentine’s Day, a strategic choice that underscores the film’s blend of horror, comedy, and romance. The film, a production of MXN Entertainment and Lollipop Woods, is distributed in the United States by Focus Features and internationally by Universal Pictures.
The film’s trailer has already sparked lots of interest among fans of both the horror genre and teen comedies, offering a unique take on a classic story while promising a blend of humour, horror, and a touch of romance.
