Interesting information reached us just yesterday that Bleecker Street has revealed that the Zellner Bros, creators of indie hits like Damsel and Kumiko: The Treasure Hunter, have been working on a clandestine project titled Sasquatch Sunset. The film, shot under the radar in Northern California in 2022, stars Riley Keough and Jesse Eisenberg and is set for a theatrical release in 2024.

The narrative of Sasquatch Sunset remains shrouded in mystery, with the only information available stating that it offers a glimpse into “a year in the life of a singular family.” The Zellner Bros are known for their boundary-pushing storytelling and cinematic style, marked by dark humor and unconventional characters.

The timing of the announcement adds intrigue, coinciding with the impending Sundance lineup reveal. Given the Zellner Bros’ history with the festival, it is highly anticipated that Sasquatch Sunset will find its place in the Premieres or possibly Midnight section.

Sasquatch Sunset 2024

This is not the first encounter between Eisenberg and the Zellner Bros, as David Zellner recently appeared alongside Eisenberg in Riley Stearns’ The Art of Self-Defense in 2019. The Zellners also executive produced the film. David Zellner received a nomination for Best Director at the Film Independent Spirit Awards in 2015 for Kumiko: The Treasure Hunter.

The film’s acquisition by Bleecker Street was a quiet affair, with the deal closing just ahead of production. The cast includes Riley Keough, known for her role in Daisy Jones & The Six, Jesse Eisenberg from Fleishman Is in Trouble, Nathan Zellner, and Christophe Zajac-Denek of Twin Peaks: The Return.

The Zellner Bros’ cinematic journey has been a fascinating one, with their previous works earning accolades and developing cult followings. “Sasquatch Sunset” marks their eighth feature project together, showcasing their commitment to pushing creative boundaries.

While Riley Keough and Jesse Eisenberg’s roles are yet to be fully unveiled, the star-studded cast and the Zellner Bros’ reputation for unique storytelling have already piqued the interest of film fans. As the film enters post-production, we’ll look forward to more details about this interesting cinematic venture.
