New Blumhouse Film will be ‘Totally Killer’

Totally Killer

A killer new trailer just dropped for the upcoming horror-comedy Totally Killer, and ’80s kids everywhere are freaking out.

Slated to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on October 6th, 2023, Totally Killer comes from the twisted minds of director Nahnatchka Khan (Always Be My Maybe) and production company Blumhouse Television, who’ve brought us delightfully scary hits like Get Out, Freaky and M3GAN.

The film stars Kiernan Shipka, whom you’ll remember as the sassy Sally Draper on Mad Men, as Jamie, a hip millennial who gets transported back to the tubular ’80s on Halloween night. There, she encounters her teen mom, played by Disney Channel alum Olivia Holt, and a masked psycho killer who terrorized her mom’s friends years ago.

Like, totally radical, right?

The trailer shows Jamie settling into ’80s life, rocking crimped hair and neon fishnets. She bonds with her future mom, cracking jokes about archaic things like landlines and cassette tapes. Their chemistry lights up the screen faster than you can say “gag me with a spoon.”

There are some most excellent nods to iconic ’80s flicks like Back to the Future, with Jamie fumbling to fit in despite her fish-out-of-water situation. In one LOL moment, Olivia Holt’s character frets about the impacts of technology in 2023, to which Jamie quips, “Yeah, it mostly ruins society through TikTok dances.”

The supporting cast is also stellar, including Randall Park, Lochlyn Munro, Charlie Gillespie, and Liana Liberato. With a script by comedy pros like Jen D’Angelo (Workaholics), this movie promises killer laughs between the thrills.

While the plot follows a similar time-traveling formula to fare like Back to the Future and stylistic elements of shows like Netflix’s Stranger Things, director Khan and Blumhouse are sure to bring a unique spin. The trailer alone oozes neon nostalgia and contemporary wit.

So start practicing your Moonwalking and get stoked for Totally Killer. It looks to be the freakiest trip back in time since Marty McFly himself revved up the DeLorean. Will Jamie rewrite history or get tragically trapped in the past? We’ll find out when this ‘Prime’ piece of popcorn horror drops on October 6th!
