Dacre Montgomery and Barbie Ferreira to Star in Controversial ‘Faces of Death’ Remake

Faces of Death 2024 Dacre Montgomery and Barbie Ferreira

Dacre Montgomery and Barbie Ferreira are set to star in a remake of the controversial 1978 film Faces of Death. The original movie, directed by Conan LeCilaire, was banned in several countries for its graphic depiction of real-life deaths and was marketed as a “shockumentary”.

The new version of the film will be directed by Danish filmmaker, Frederik Bond, and produced by legendary horror movie producer, Jason Blum. It is expected to be a more modern take on the original film, which used real footage of deaths and animal slaughter. The new version will reportedly focus more on the psychological horror of death and how it affects individuals.

Montgomery, who rose to fame as Billy in Netflix’s hit show Stranger Things, will play the lead role in the remake. Ferreira, best known for her role in HBO’s Euphoria, will also have a prominent role in the film. Other cast members include Isaiah Russell-Bailey, Nell Hudson, and Kate Aronoff.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed some early details:
“The new plot revolves around a female moderator of a YouTube-like website, whose job is to weed out offensive and violent content and who herself is recovering from a serious trauma, that stumbles across a group that is recreating the murders from the original film. But in the story primed for the digital age and age of online misinformation, the question faced is are the murders real or fake?”

The original Faces of Death was widely criticized for its gratuitous violence and exploitation of real-life tragedies. However, it has also gained a cult following and remains a controversial piece of cinema history. The remake is expected to generate similar reactions and may face challenges with censorship and distribution.

The production of the film is set to begin in April 2023, and it is scheduled for release in early 2024. The new “Faces of Death” is poised to be a provocative and polarizing addition to the horror genre.
