Hammer Unearths ‘Daughter of Darkness’ and ‘Lady in the Fog’
Hammer is digging deeper into Britain’s post-war shadows for its latest home entertainment releases, pairing a rarely seen Gothic horror with a fog-bound murder mystery as Daughter of Darkness and Lady in the Fog receive newly restored collector’s editions.

Leading the announcement is Lance Comfort’s 1948 Daughter of Darkness, which joins the Hammer Presents range following a new 2K restoration created from scans of the original film negatives. The release marks the first time the restoration has been made available anywhere in the world, bringing renewed attention to a British horror film that pushed against the boundaries of its era.
Siobhán McKenna stars as Emmy Baudine, a troubled young woman driven out of rural Ireland after her attraction to men and violent response to intimacy unsettle the local community. Her past eventually follows her, embodied by a man left permanently scarred after an encounter with her.

The film also stars Maxwell Reed and Anne Crawford, while Honor Blackman appears in her first credited film role, years before becoming internationally recognised through The Avengers and Goldfinger.
Hammer’s Limited Collector’s Edition includes new artwork by Liza Shumska and an O-card package alongside the restored UK theatrical version. Newly produced extras include a programme examining director Lance Comfort’s career, featuring contributors including BFI curator Josephine Botting, critic Phuong Le and film historian Melanie Williams.
Two new commentaries are included, featuring Heidi Honeycutt, Sarah Morgan, Botting and Le, while author Jonathan Rigby contributes a newly produced programme exploring the making of Daughter of Darkness.
Also joining Hammer’s restoration programme is Sam Newfield’s 1952 noir Lady in the Fog, which will arrive on 4K UHD and Blu-ray on 11 January 2027 to celebrate its 75th anniversary.

Cesar Romero stars as American writer Philip O’Dell, whose journey through London is interrupted when thick fog grounds his flight. After meeting Heather, played by Bernadette O’Farrell, he becomes drawn into the suspicious death of her brother and an increasingly tangled murder investigation.
Lois Maxwell also appears before her later fame as Miss Moneypenny, while The Ladykillers star Katie Johnson makes a supporting appearance.
Hammer and Silver Salt Restoration have restored Lady in the Fog in 4K from the original negatives, with both the British version and the US release, Scotland Yard Inspector, included across the two-disc UHD and Blu-ray set.
New material includes commentaries from James Harrison and Sergio Angelini, and Max Allan Collins and Heath Holland, alongside documentaries examining London’s notorious pea-soup fogs and the extraordinary career of Newfield, who directed more than 250 features.
The accompanying booklet expands further on the film with new writing on Romero, Maxwell, production history and the picture’s mixture of British and American crime cinema traditions.
Both releases underline the purpose of the Hammer Presents line, which looks beyond Hammer’s own productions to restore and celebrate British genre films made by its contemporaries.
Daughter of Darkness is available to pre-order now through Hammer Films, while Lady in the Fog will be released as a Limited Collector’s Edition 4K UHD and Blu-ray set on 11 January 2027 and is also available to pre-order now. For more information, and to get your copy, visit: hammerfilms.com/
