‘Tales from the Crypt’ Brings the Crypt Keeper Back for FearFest 2026

The Crypt Keeper is crawling back into the spotlight. AMC Global Media has announced that the Tales from the Crypt icon will serve as the official host of this year’s FearFest, marking the 30th anniversary of the network’s annual horror celebration and the character’s first new on-screen material in three decades.

The month-long event begins on 1 October across AMC and AMC+, with more than 650 hours of horror films, franchise marathons, new series and specials planned throughout the season. Returning sponsor BACARDÍ Rum is also back for the anniversary edition.

John Kassir will once again provide the Crypt Keeper’s unmistakable voice, while special effects artist and longtime AMC collaborator Greg Nicotero has rebuilt the character as a newly reimagined puppet. Nicotero also directed the new host segments, which were created with AMC Global Media’s in-house Content Room team.

“What a great honor and privilege to re-create this iconic character and get a chance to revisit some of his clever quips and puns with John Kassir again reprising his role,” Nicotero said. “Having the chance to re-create Kevin Yagher’s amazing puppet at my studio KNB EFX and get the opportunity to ‘direct him’ in a series of FearFest spots was like going back in time.”

The programming line-up reaches across several major horror franchises, including Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Final Destination and Insidious. A Stephen King strand will feature It, the IT miniseries, The Shining, Misery and Christine, alongside themed marathons such as “Fear the 80s” and “Creature Feature”.

AMC is also using FearFest to spotlight newer programming. YAGA, starring Carrie-Anne Moss, Noah Reid and Hudson Williams, launches on AMC+ with a two-episode premiere on 23 October before continuing weekly through 27 November. Meanwhile, The Terror: Devil in Silver, starring Dan Stevens, Judith Light, CCH Pounder, Aasif Mandvi and Stephen Root, is also part of the seasonal schedule.

The return of the Crypt Keeper also arrives alongside a broader revival for Tales from the Crypt. All seven seasons of the anthology series are available to stream exclusively on AMC+ and Shudder, bringing back a show famed for its mixture of gore, dark humour and self-contained morality tales. Across its original run, the series attracted guest stars including Brad Pitt, Demi Moore, Catherine O’Hara and Steve Buscemi, with directors ranging from Robert Zemeckis and Tobe Hooper to William Friedkin.
