Little Shops of Horror – The Witchy Stitcher

When you love horror as much as we do you want it to permeate every part of your life, at home, at work, on the walls, on your clothes, everywhere! That is where our regular feature Little Shops of Horror comes in handy as we run through some seriously spooktastic stores and wicked websites ready to sell you truly terrifyingly awesome horror products.

Cross stitch is a form of counted embroidery that has been around for generations, it is one of the easiest forms of hand embroidery to learn. Cross stitch is comprised of X-shaped stitches repeated to make a completed masterpiece. Designs can be classy, trashy, sweet or sassy! There are NO limits to what you can do.

Horror and cross stitching a match made in madness but somehow it works and the shop to fulfil all your needs is The Witchy Stitcher. In the store you will find patterns, tutorials, kits, mystery boxes, freebie designs, stitching accessories & so much more. The Witchy warehouse is always growing and expanding and you never know what will hit the shelves next.

Who is the The Witchy Stitcher? What is The Witchy Stitcher? What better way to learn about The Witchy Stitcher and her wicked wares than from the witches mouth “On a dreary night amongst towering mountains, in a dark cabin bounded by a dense forest…I entered this world. As a young sprout I always had an affinity for the macabre, and the punny. I happily linger in the underbelly of traditional art whether it be cross stitch, fine arts or graphic design and hold a BFA, among a few other certificates and diplomas. I cannot do the same job for 5 or 6 years… I start to get all murdery. I’ve run a few businesses but The Witchy Stitcher is a tomb I can see myself resting in for a long time.”

“As you can likely guess I adore all things witchy, spooky and gory. Every day really is Halloween for me… I bleed black and orange. My favorite horror icons are Vincent Price, Hannibal Lecter & Freddy K. Favorite Animal – Fruit Bat. Favorite Food – Chocolate. Favorite Drink – The blood of my enemies …duh.”

“I’m 35ish human years old but seem to be stuck in my teen phase of #hottopic. I have a spawn in human form, 2 insidious dogs and rats, and a disgustingly handsome husband Alex @tyberiusblackart Our spooky little family currently resides in the horribly sunny, and depressingly beautiful Okanagan, Canada. Also shout out to that handsome husband for helping me write about myself.”

Below Meg The Witchy Stitcher takes some time out from her amazing work to answer some of our questions:

1. How did you get into making such magnificent horror merchandise?
I was born spooky. I adore horror and the macabre and have a creative fire that must be constantly fed. It all came about on a cold 2017 winter night browsing Pinterest looking for Christmas gifts and I wanted to try cross stitch. I couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for, so I decided to just dive into the deep and make my own pattern. Yep no idea what I was doing. Just jumped in and opened up shop a month later.

2. What is your bestselling product?
Definitely the SALS (stitch alongs). What is a SAL you ask? A Stitch Along (or SAL) is a group of stitchers working on the same project/pattern together. This can either be of a theme or with a special design set up to be stitched in sequence. Here we do mystery stitch alongs where you don’t get to see the end result till you are DONE! It’s a blast and a fabulous community grown out of it.

We have done two of them. Our first one was Universal Monsters themed, and our second one was The Chopping Mall – slasher/horror themed! Just picture a couple thousand creepy crafters stabbing fabric thousands of times together, to make pretty horror works of art! The next SAL will be early 2021.

3. What inspires your creepy creations?
I’m a huge fan of 80s/90s era horror. It excites me the most, I absolutely adore B Horror Movies too. Drives my partner crazy but he knows what he signed up for. I have a pattern idea book that is nearly as thick as the Dictionary. One by one they shall be done!

4. What is your favourite horror film and why?
Sorry….one is not an option. There are way too many to choose from! My go to’s are the classics. Evil Dead… Army of Darkness is my favourite of the series, Candyman, Friday The 13th, Halloween, Nightmare On Elm Street, Silence Of The Lambs, and anything with Vincent Price.

5. What scares you the most?
Serial Killers, but also I am low key obsessed with them. LET ME INSIDE YOUR MIND!

6. If you had to make a present for a famous horror movie character who would it be and what would you give them?
Maybe not a notable famous character, but what comes to mind is a stitch of my “How To Survive A Horror Movie” pattern to all those “short parts”. Be the Scream King/Queen, not the Scream Prince/Princess who dies in Act 1.
