Little Shops of Horror – TruffleShuffle.com

When you love horror as much as we do you want it to permeate every part of your life, at home, at work, on the walls, on your clothes, everywhere!

That is where our feature Little Shops of Horror comes in handy as we run through some seriously spooktastic stores and wicked websites ready to sell you truly terrifyingly awesome horror products.

This time its TruffleShuffle a site dedicated to bringing the public officially awesome T-Shirts, gifts and accessories all inspired by the best old school and cult TV, movies, games, music and more.

In their own words the site was set up on a whim; “Friday night, 2004. Bootleg jeans on and Motorola Razr in hand, you take a Dukes of Hazzard T-Shirt, wear it down your local Bristol boozer, get tons of compliments from strangers and what happens? You (drunkenly) make it your mission to share this love of retro tees, via that new-fangled whizzy invention, the interweb. Fast forward a few eBay sales and you call your T-Shirt store truffleshuffle.co.uk, because, well…it’s cool, it comes from a totally classic movie and Gooniestshirts.com MIGHT have been taken…”

This is how TruffleShuffle founders Pat and Claire kicked off the retro tee revolution. 15 years and over 1,500,000+ T-Shirts later, they are now a team of more than a few fellow retro addicts who are still inspired by all things old-school.

“Our customers are our kindred spirits” the guys behind the scenes say “Loads of what you see on the site is because you guys said you needed it – beloved brands like Loungefly and cult cartoons like The Raccoons to name but two, and we love hearing what you just can’t live without. From Care Bears to My Little Pony, we team up with fellow fans to create limited edition collections, and we always want to hear what you think. Email us, hit us up on the (Dream)phone or give us a shout on our social channels and we’ll do our best to get that old-school goodness you’re craving on the site for you.”

When it comes to horror they have plenty of products on offer. If you have seen the movie IT, the sight of a lone red balloon in your eye line would definitely give you cause to be nervous. Is Pennywise watching you? Are you the next victim? Taking some time off from TruffleShuffle head of Digital Marketer Iain and Designer James answered some questions on the sites most petrifying products below:

1. How did you get into making such magnificent horror merchandise?
Thanks so much for the kind word and so glad you like our collection! Everything we do here at TruffleShuffle is driven by our overall passion for creating fun and nostalgic designs from our childhoods and beyond. Covering so many of our favourite movies, TV shows and books, naturally we would turn to some of our favourite Horror titles to inspire our very own collection of designs as they brought us so much growing up and still do now.

2. What is your bestselling product?
There are certain horror franchises that always does well for us, Lost Boys, Ghostbusters and Gremlins Particularly come to mind and recently we’ve seen a lot of new Pennywise product that people seem to be loving thanks to the new It movie remakes.

3. What inspires your creepy creations?
We’re huge fans of the 70s, 80s and 90s at TruffleShuffle so we are particularly inspired by the classic horror films from these years. Alien, Jaws, Halloween, Friday 13th, Scream, The Blair Witch Project, we’ve covered them all at some point! We’re also keen to feature the horror we loved as kids such as Point Horror and Goosebumps.

4. What is your favourite horror film and why?
Absolutely love Alien, such a claustrophobic and uncomfortable watch with genuinely scary monster design. Plus, Sigourney Weaver was perfect as Ripley (and Jones the cat was super cute!).

5. What scares you the most?
Those monsters from The Descent, as if being trapped underground wasn’t bad enough!

6. If you had to make a present for a famous horror movie character who would it be and what would you give them?
We’d probably buy a new laptop for Jack Torrance from The Shining, much more practical than that dusty old typewriter!
