Film Masterclass from the man behind El Mariachi

gffgfdThanks to the advancement of modern technology, more and more micro budget films are being produced than ever before – such as the Paranormal Activity franchise – but very few become a box office success or receive worldwide acclaim in the way classic films like Eraserhead, Clerks, The Blair Witch Project and El Mariachi did. This masterclass aims to change all of that!

Critically acclaimed award-winning actor & producer Carlos Gallardo (star of Robert Rodriguez’s El Mariachi and producer of Desperado and Once Upon A Time In Mexico) will be taking part in a series of UK film masterclasses from 28th April – 5th May.

The masterclasses, run by Intense Productions and in association with UK Trade and Investment NW, are designed to equip filmmakers with valuable information to launch a successful feature film through chaired panel discussions and Q&A sessions. This is a fantastic opportunity for a budding filmmaker to gain industry secrets on how to develop, produce, market and promote their work.index

Carlos Gallardo co-wrote, starred in and produced the highly acclaimed El Mariachi for a budget of $7,000 which marked the feature directorial debut of Robert Rodriguez (Sin City; From Dusk Till Dawn; The Faculty). Gallardo and Rodriguez have since produced the hugely successful box office hits Desperado starring Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek & Steve Buscemi, and Once Upon A Time In Mexico starring Johnny Depp & Mickey Rourke.. The El Mariachi Trilogy entered the books of cinema history and inspired a generation of filmmakers!

Gallardo has also worked with directors Jen & Sylvia Soska on their acclaimed feature debut Dead Hooker In A Trunk. Now filmmakers will have the opportunity to hear and learn from Gallardo in person. Speaking alongside Gallardo will be Chee Keong Cheung, MD of Intense Productions and Intense Distribution, who recently released the critically acclaimed horror Banshee Chapter, executive produced by Zachary Quinto’s (Star Trek; Heroes) Before the Door Pictures (All is Lost; Margin Call), and Mark Strange who produced the independent British film Displaced featuring the voice of Sir Ian McKellen.

The intensive one day film masterclasses will focus on how to make a micro budget film and sell it, covering topics including:
Raising finance
Post production
Sales and distribution

The masterclass offers an invaluable insight into the filmmaking team who tore up the rulebooks and changed the face of independent cinema forever; kickstarting Robert Rodriguez’s successful career, and is ideal for writers, directors, producers, film students, industry professionals who aim to further their career in film production and anyone serious about a career in the film business.
