About Black Sunday Film Festival 2026

Black Sunday Film Festival returns with an electrifying programme of documentaries, horror, thrillers, fantasy and cult cinema from visionary filmmakers around the world. Alongside feature presentations and curated short film blocks, audiences can enjoy filmmaker Q&As, special events and the much-loved Cult Film Secret Screening.

Opening Night Highlights

The festival opens on Friday 30th January with the UK premiere of Lunatic: The Luna Vachon Story, presented by Raven Banner. Directed by Kate Kroll, this powerful documentary explores the life and legacy of legendary WWF women’s wrestler Luna Vachon, charting her trailblazing career alongside deeply personal struggles with mental health, addiction and identity.

This is followed by the UK premiere of What the Tide Dragged In from writer-director Patricio Valladares, a haunting tale of isolation and survival where long-buried secrets resurface with devastating consequences.

Friday continues with the UK premieres of GroupChat by Dan Brownlie and Inferno from Belgian filmmaker Brandon Gotto, before concluding with the Essex premiere of Steven Kostanski’s Deathstalker, a bold reimagining of cult fantasy action cinema.

Saturday and Sunday Highlights

Saturday features the Essex premiere of The Reckoning, a tense moral thriller directed by Alex Breaux, followed by UK premieres including Son of Sara, Los Ahogados (Deep End) and the carnage-fuelled Traction Park Massacre. The evening closes with Can Evrenol’s The Turkish Coffee Table.

Sunday opens with the Essex premiere of documentary The Dark Fantastic, focusing on renowned composer Simon Boswell, followed by the character-driven drama Loner. The festival then closes in true Black Sunday style with the Cult Film Secret Screening, presented by Arrow Video, before heading into the official afterparty.

The festival also showcases an outstanding international short film programme, featuring UK, European and North American selections, cementing Black Sunday’s reputation for championing emerging and distinctive voices in genre cinema.
