The story picks up after the finale of The Walking Dead, with Daryl washing ashore in France—the birthplace of the zombie virus. Stranded thousands of miles from home, Daryl embarks on a perilous journey to find his way back to the United States. Along the way, he encounters ruthless factions and terrifying walkers, all while trying to survive in a strange and hostile land.

Taking refuge in a convent, Daryl meets Isabelle (Poésy) and young Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi), a 12-year-old boy believed to be the prophesied savior of humanity. In exchange for help returning to America, Daryl agrees to guide them on a dangerous pilgrimage to Paris, where the Union de L’Espoir (Union of Hope) has established a resistance stronghold known as The Nest.
