‘Oddities’ Brings Adrienne Barbeau Back to FrightFest
An isolated roadside antique shop becomes the last place two desperate fugitives should seek refuge in Oddities, Tyler Savage’s feature expansion of his award-winning 2023 short. The horror thriller, led by Adrienne Barbeau, Xander Berkeley, Lovie Simone and Lilimar, will receive its UK premiere at Tubi FrightFest this August.

The story follows two self-destructive best friends who accidentally kill their drug dealer before fleeing town in search of safety. Their escape leads them to what appears to be a quiet roadside antiques shop run by an elderly woman who offers to help. It soon becomes clear that their latest stop may be even more dangerous than the one they have just left behind, sending the pair into an increasingly unpredictable fight for survival.
Barbeau takes on the role of the mysterious shop owner, bringing decades of genre pedigree to the production. Best known for performances in The Fog, Escape from New York, Creepshow and Swamp Thing, she is joined by Xander Berkeley, whose career has included Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Candyman, Gattaca and Heat. The cast is completed by Lovie Simone, recognised for The Craft: Legacy, and Lilimar, whose recent work includes voicing Val in Pixar’s Inside Out 2. Lilimar also serves as an executive producer on the film.

Savage wrote and directed Oddities, expanding the concept introduced in his 2023 short film into a feature-length production. It’s often a difficult transition, asking a compact idea to sustain a much longer running time, though adapting an existing short also gives filmmakers the chance to deepen characters and broaden the world they have already established.
Before moving into directing features, Savage worked as a story editor at Warner Bros. and collaborated with filmmaker Terrence Malick across four consecutive productions. His debut feature, Inheritance, premiered at the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival, while Stalker screened at FrightFest before winning the Dark Matters Award at the Austin Film Festival and securing distribution through Vertical Entertainment.

That history gives Oddities an interesting homecoming of sorts. Savage returns to FrightFest with a project that blends crime, horror and dark humour, while the presence of Barbeau adds another familiar face to this year’s festival line-up. She will also star in another Tubi FrightFest premiere this year, with a role alongside Danielle Harris and the late Tony Todd in The Pitchfork Retreat.
