‘Other Mommy’ Trailer Unleashes Jessica Chastain’s Sinister Double
A child’s question becomes an invitation with consequences in the new trailer for Other Mommy, Rob Savage’s latest horror feature, which places Oscar winner Jessica Chastain on both sides of a family’s nightmare. The film opens in cinemas on 9 October, with the first footage revealing a domestic threat that wears the face of someone its young protagonist already trusts.

Produced by James Wan through Blumhouse Atomic Monster, Other Mommy follows Bela, a young girl who develops a relationship with a sinister presence inside her home. The entity bears an uncanny resemblance to Bela’s mother, creating a problem that is not simply about proving a haunting exists, but deciding which version of a parent can be believed.
Chastain takes on the dual roles of Bela’s mother and the figure known as Other Mommy. It is a casting decision that gives the film’s central idea an immediate visual force, with affection and danger occupying the same face. Arabella Olivia Clark plays Bela, while Jay Duplass appears as her father, referred to as Daddo.

The supporting cast includes Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed and Karen Allen. Their precise roles have not yet been detailed, although the trailer keeps its attention firmly inside Bela’s family home and on the growing influence of the intruder.
Savage directs from a screenplay by Nathan Elston, adapted from Josh Malerman’s bestselling novel Incidents Around the House. Malerman is also the author of Bird Box, and the new adaptation retains the child-centred perspective that distinguished the source book. That point of view matters here. Or at least it seems to, since the trailer allows Bela’s understanding of events to shape what the audience can trust.
Savage previously directed Host, the lockdown-era horror film staged through a video call, followed by Dashcam and the Stephen King adaptation The Boogeyman. His work has often concentrated on threats entering supposedly controlled spaces through familiar technology or family routines. Other Mommy moves that interest into a more intimate setting, where the danger is already inside and appears to know exactly how to speak to a child.

Wan produces after building several of modern studio horror’s most commercially successful franchises, including Saw, Insidious and The Conjuring. Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Savage, Malerman and Ryan Lewis serve as executive producers.
Other Mommy will be released exclusively in cinemas on 9 October 2026.
