Adam Scott Enters Haunted Inn Nightmare in ‘Hokum’ Trailer
Black Bear has shared a new UK trailer for Hokum, the latest feature from Irish filmmaker Damian McCarthy, offering a closer look at the supernatural horror ahead of its forthcoming release.

The film stars Adam Scott as Ohm Bauman, a reclusive American novelist who travels to a remote inn in Ireland to scatter his parents’ ashes. What begins as a personal retreat soon shifts into something far more unsettling, as local stories about a witch said to haunt the building’s honeymoon suite begin to take hold. The newly released footage suggests that these tales are more than folklore, with Bauman experiencing increasingly disturbing visions that blur the line between memory and hallucination.
McCarthy, who previously directed Caveat and Oddity, writes and directs Hokum, continuing his focus on contained settings and psychological unease. The trailer leans heavily into atmosphere, with dimly lit corridors, uneasy encounters with other guests and glimpses of an unnerving rabbit-like figure hinting at a wider supernatural presence within the inn.
As the story develops, Bauman becomes entangled in a series of events that include a sudden disappearance, pushing him to confront aspects of his past that appear tied to the haunting. The official synopsis confirms that the character’s stay becomes increasingly consumed by these experiences, suggesting a link between personal grief and the forces at work within the building.

Alongside Scott, the cast includes Peter Coonan, David Wilmot and Austin Amelio, with Florence Ordesh also appearing. The production was filmed on location in West Cork, with the setting playing a central role in establishing the film’s isolated tone. Producers include Roy Lee and Steven Schneider, with the project backed by Screen Ireland.
Hokum premiered at the 2026 South by Southwest Film and TV Festival, where it received early critical attention ahead of its wider rollout. Neon, which acquired worldwide rights in 2025, is set to release the film in the United States on 1 May, with a UK date yet to be confirmed.

For Scott, the role adds another genre project to a recent run that has seen him take on increasingly complex and unusual characters. In Hokum, that trajectory places him at the centre of a story where isolation, grief and the unknown begin to overlap with dangerous consequences. We’ll share more news as it comes.
