‘Widow’s Bay’ Brings Coastal Horror Mystery to Apple TV
Apple TV+ has offered an early glimpse of Widow’s Bay, a new comedy horror series set to premiere globally on 29 April 2026. Created by Katie Dippold and directed in part by Hiro Murai, the ten-episode series blends small-town drama with supernatural elements, anchored by a central performance from Matthew Rhys.

Set on a remote island off the New England coast, Widow’s Bay introduces viewers to a seemingly quiet community defined by isolation and long-standing local traditions. The series follows Mayor Tom Loftis, played by Rhys, a figure attempting to modernise the town and reverse its economic decline. His efforts to attract tourism are complicated by the island’s reputation, with residents holding firm beliefs that the location is cursed.
The show unfolds as Loftis begins to see success in drawing visitors to the island, only for long-dismissed stories to resurface. What initially appears to be folklore gradually intersects with real events, placing the mayor at odds with both the community and the increasingly difficult circumstances surrounding him. The series positions Loftis as a reluctant authority figure, navigating scepticism from locals while attempting to maintain control as tensions rise.
Joining Rhys in the cast are Kate O’Flynn, Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll and Dale Dickey. The production is led by Apple Studios, with Dippold serving as showrunner and executive producer alongside Rhys, Murai, Claudia Shin and Carver Karaszewski. Additional directing duties are handled by Ti West, Sam Donovan and Andrew DeYoung.

Filming took place across various locations in Massachusetts during 2025, including Worcester, Gloucester and Rockport, with coastal settings providing the backdrop for the fictional town. The series adopts a weekly release structure, launching with three episodes before continuing with a new instalment each Wednesday through to mid-June.
The first three episodes of Widow’s Bay will debut on Apple TV+ on 29 April 2026, with subsequent episodes released weekly.
