‘Helloween’ Turns Killer Clown Craze into Bloody New Horror
The 2016 “killer clown” craze provides the backdrop for Helloween, the latest horror release from writer-director Phil Claydon. Produced by Shogun Films, the film will debut on UK digital platforms on 29 September courtesy of Miracle Media, with a Blu-ray edition following on 13 October through 101 Films.

Set during the height of the widely reported phenomenon that saw masked pranksters terrorising communities across the UK and beyond, Helloween reimagines the headlines as the spark for something darker. At its centre is Dr Ellen Marks, played by Jeanine Nerissa Sothcott, a psychiatrist working in a high-security hospital that houses child killer Carl Cane, portrayed by Ronan Summers. As reports of clown-related attacks escalate, Marks begins to suspect that the epidemic may not be random hysteria but instead orchestrated by Cane from within the institution’s walls.
Her investigation leads her to partner with American journalist John Parker, played by Michael Paré (Eddie and the Cruisers, Streets of Fire). Together, they attempt to unravel the link between the clown attacks and Cane’s influence, only for the situation to spiral when the killer escapes confinement in a brutal fashion.

What follows is a violent struggle that pits Marks not only against the escaped murderer but also against a spreading movement that appears to be consuming the country. As Cane’s ideology grows into a cult of chaos, Marks must fight to protect her daughters while confronting the possibility that what she is facing extends beyond human evil.
Claydon, whose previous work includes Lesbian Vampire Killers (2009), here shifts toward a blood-soaked thriller steeped in contemporary anxieties. By anchoring the fictional mayhem in the very real atmosphere of panic generated by the clown sightings of 2016, Helloween aims to blur the line between urban myth and horror spectacle.

The Blu-ray release will feature a director’s commentary, a behind-the-scenes featurette, deleted scenes and the official trailer.
Helloween will be available in the UK on digital from 29 September, with Blu-ray to follow on 13 October.
