FrightFest Hosts ‘Redux Redux’ and Its Twisted Revenge Loop

Kevin and Matthew McManus’s Redux Redux will make its UK premiere next month at FrightFest 2025, screening on the festival’s prestigious Main Screen at the ODEON Luxe Leicester Square. The sci-fi thriller, which had its world premiere at South by Southwest earlier this year, will play on Sunday 24 August at 8.50pm as part of a slate that continues to push the boundaries of genre cinema.

The film follows Irene Kelly, played by Michaela McManus, a grieving mother who secures a black-market time machine to travel between parallel realities. In each version of the universe she visits, Irene confronts and kills the same man: Nelson, the serial killer responsible for her daughter’s death. But what begins as an act of vengeance quickly transforms into a compulsive cycle, as Irene loses sight of what she’s truly fighting for.

Directed and written by the McManus brothers, Redux Redux is their first feature under the banner of their new company, Mothership Motion Pictures. The directing duo are already known for their work on American Vandal and The Block Island Sound, with Redux Redux marking their third collaboration with sister Michaela in a lead role. Filmed in California’s Santa Clarita Valley, the project wrapped in mid-2024 and was picked up by Saban Films for North American distribution earlier this year. It is being distributed in the UK by Blue Finch Film Releasing.

The cast includes Jim Cummings, Jeremy Holm, Grace Van Dien, Taylor Misiak and rising talent Stella Marcus. It blends science fiction with horror and psychological thriller elements, using multiverse theory as a lens through which to explore loss, obsession and the erosion of identity.

Following its debut at SXSW as part of the Midnighter strand, the film received early praise for its central performance and meticulous construction. Saban Films executives described it as a ‘virtuosic’ display of genre filmmaking, and have signalled their intent to position the McManus brothers as serious contenders for future studio-backed projects.

Redux Redux 2025

Redux Redux joins a growing list of time-bending genre films appearing on the festival circuit this year, though few with quite the same grim persistence of vision. As FrightFest attendees prepare for its UK premiere, the film looks set to provoke as much as entertain, asking not just how far a mother would go for justice, but how many times.

The theatrical release date for Redux Redux in the US is expected to be announced later this year.
