‘The Death of Snow White’ Puts a Body Count on a Classic
A fresh and brutal take on one of the world’s most recognisable fairy tales is making its way to digital platforms this summer. The Death of Snow White, directed by Jason Brooks and starring Sanae Loutsis, reimagines the Brothers Grimm tale with a bloodied edge and a horror-thriller slant that trades enchantment for survival. The film is being released by Entertainment Squad’s genre label The Horror Collective following a limited US theatrical rollout in April via Atlas Distribution.

This latest retelling sees Snow White stalked through a forest not by magic or myth, but by mortal terror. Pursued by her malevolent stepmother and trapped in an unforgiving wilderness, she encounters a clan of dwarves whose moral compass skews closer to homicidal than helpful. With allegiances frayed and the lines between friend and predator increasingly blurred, the film leans heavily into horror tropes while preserving the dark thematic undertones embedded in the original folklore.
Loutsis leads a cast that includes Chelsea Edmundson, Tristan Nokes, Meredith Binder, Colin Miller and Dillon Moore. Brooks, who also co-wrote the script with Naomi Mechem-Miller, has described the production as a labour of twisted love. The film was produced by a team including Eric Michael Kochmer, Charles Bunce, Kayli Fortun and Brooks himself, with executive producer credits shared by a large roster including Shawn Loutsis, Tammy Loutsis and Matt Surowiecki Sr.

The production’s distinctive visual effects were handled by Real Fiction Studios, the Seattle-based practical FX company founded by Brooks and reinvented in 2022 in collaboration with Mechem-Miller and Michelle Munoz. Known in the Pacific Northwest for its genre work across film and television, Real Fiction brings a tactile aesthetic to the project that favours physical transformation and atmospheric design over CGI gloss.
Shaked Berenson, CEO of The Horror Collective’s parent company Entertainment Squad, noted the film’s position in a wider trend of twisted folk reimaginings. “Fairy tales have always had a dark side,” he said, “and The Death of Snow White embraces that in a bold, terrifying way.”

The Horror Collective has previously handled titles including Slaxx, Summoning Sylvia and Werewolf Game, with The Death of Snow White continuing the label’s focus on independent genre filmmaking with distinctive hooks. With its mix of mythology, forest dread and bloodshed, the film aims to attract horror audiences seeking a grimmer, less sanitised version of childhood fables.
The Death of Snow White will be available via to rent and buy digital platforms from 1 July. No streaming platform exclusivity has been confirmed.
