Directed by Adam O’Brien and featuring a standout performance by Emily Hampshire (Schitt’s Creek, The Rig), Mom delves into themes of isolation, trauma, and the haunting pressures of parental expectations. The film, which premiered to critical acclaim at Glasgow FrightFest in 2024, offers an unflinching look at the darker side of motherhood, with Hampshire’s gripping portrayal anchoring the story.

It’s the feature directorial debut for O’Brien, having previously worked on a series of horror shorts and segments in anthologies.

In Mom, Hampshire plays a struggling mother who finds herself abandoned by her family and partner following a horrific incident. Left to navigate her pain alone, she becomes consumed by an enigmatic, sinister entity that forces her to relive her most harrowing moments. As her reality spirals into a waking nightmare, the film examines the psychological toll of isolation and the unspoken challenges faced by many women in their roles as caregivers.

The UK and Ireland and US posters for Mom both give an excellent sense of what you can expect with this tense thriller.
