Colleen Hoover’s ‘Verity’ Heads to Cinemas with Star Studded Cast
A remote estate, a bestselling author with a dark past and a ghostwriter uncovering disturbing secrets sit at the centre of Verity, the upcoming psychological thriller adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel.

Amazon MGM Studios has released the first teaser poster for the film ahead of its cinema release on 2 October 2026, offering an early look at director Michael Showalter’s take on Hoover’s hugely popular 2018 book.
Starring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett, Verity follows struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh, played by Johnson, who is hired to complete a successful book series after acclaimed author Verity Crawford, portrayed by Hathaway, is left unable to finish the work following a mysterious accident.
Lowen relocates to the isolated Crawford family home to begin work on the project, but her assignment soon takes a darker turn after she discovers what appear to be Verity’s autobiographical writings. The material contains troubling confessions connected to Verity’s husband Jeremy, played by Hartnett, blurring the line between fiction, manipulation and reality as Lowen becomes increasingly consumed by what she has uncovered.

The project marks another high-profile literary adaptation for Hoover, whose novels have become a major force within publishing and screen development over the past decade. While It Ends With Us introduced Hoover’s work to cinema audiences on a large scale, Verity moves decisively into psychological thriller territory, drawing on gothic influences, obsession and unreliable perspectives.
Michael Showalter directs from a screenplay by Nick Antosca, who also serves as a producer alongside Hathaway, Stacey Sher, Jordana Mollick and Hoover herself. Antosca, known for darker material including Brand New Cherry Flavor and The Act, reportedly completed the final screenplay drafts after earlier work by April Maguire, Will Honley, Hilary Seitz and Angela LaManna.
Production began in New York in early 2025, with Hathaway and Hartnett filming on location before Johnson joined the shoot later in the schedule. The cast also includes Ismael Cruz Córdova and Brady Wagner.

The film’s score has been composed by Academy Award winner Volker Bertelmann, whose previous work includes All Quiet on the Western Front and Conclave.
Originally slated for release in May 2026, Verity will now arrive exclusively in cinemas on 2 October.
