‘Practical Magic 2’ Trailer Sees the Return of The Owens Sisters
More than 25 years after the original cast first stepped into the Owens family home, Practical Magic 2 has conjured up its first trailer, confirming the long-awaited return of Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman ahead of its cinema release on 11 September 2026.

Directed by Susanne Bier, the sequel revisits the story of sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, picking up decades after the events of the 1998 film. This time, the focus expands to a new generation, with Joey King and Maisie Williams joining the cast as Sally’s daughters, alongside Lee Pace, Xolo Maridueña and Solly McLeod in currently undisclosed roles. Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest also return as the aunts who raised the sisters.
Based on Alice Hoffman’s novel The Book of Magic, the film follows the Owens family as they confront the origins of their powers. According to the synopsis, the discovery of long-buried family secrets places the younger generation at the centre of a new crisis, forcing the women to reunite and address the curse that has shaped their lives.
The original Practical Magic, released in 1998, was not an immediate critical success, receiving mixed reviews and earning $68 million worldwide against its reported $75 million budget. Despite that, it has since built a loyal following, with audiences continuing to revisit the film in the years since its release, particularly through home viewing and streaming platforms.

Development on the sequel was first confirmed in 2024, with Akiva Goldsman returning to write the screenplay. Georgia Pritchett later joined the project, while Bullock and Kidman also serve as producers alongside Denise Di Novi. Filming took place in the UK, including at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, as well as locations in Devon and London, before wrapping in September 2025.
The newly released trailer offers the first glimpse of how the story has evolved, introducing new characters while reconnecting with the central family dynamic that defined the original. With the cast now spanning multiple generations of the Owens lineage, the film moves the story forward while retaining its core setting.
The trailer for Practical Magic 2 is now available to watch, giving audiences their first look at the sequel before its September release.
