Johnny Cage Enters the Fight in ‘Mortal Kombat II’ New Trailer

Warner Bros. Pictures has dropped the first full trailer and poster for Mortal Kombat II, offering fans their clearest look yet at the next chapter in New Line Cinema’s big-screen adaptation of the iconic video game franchise. The sequel arrives in UK cinemas on 8 May 2026, with director Simon McQuoid returning to the helm following the 2021 reboot.

The new footage wastes little time in signalling escalation. Where the previous instalment laid groundwork for the long-promised tournament, Mortal Kombat II thrusts Earthrealm’s champions into direct conflict under the looming threat of Shao Kahn. The tyrant’s rise places the survival of Earthrealm at stake, forcing familiar warriors into brutal confrontation.

Karl Urban joins the franchise as fan favourite Johnny Cage, a casting move long teased at the close of the first film. The trailer positions Cage as both swaggering outsider and reluctant combatant, his arrival injecting a volatile dynamic into an already combustible roster. Urban headlines a returning cast that includes Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Mehcad Brooks as Jax and Lewis Tan as Cole Young.

Adeline Rudolph steps into the role of Kitana, with Tati Gabrielle portraying Jade. Damon Herriman appears as Quan Chi, while Chin Han reprises Shang Tsung. Tadanobu Asano returns as Lord Raiden, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han and Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi, better known as Scorpion. Martyn Ford’s imposing presence as Shao Kahn looms large in the trailer’s closing moments.

Jeremy Slater pens the screenplay, drawing from the characters created by Ed Boon and John Tobias. The sequel is produced by Todd Garner, E. Bennett Walsh, James Wan, Toby Emmerich and McQuoid, with executive producers including Slater and Boon.

Behind the camera, the production reunites key collaborators, with cinematographer Stephen F. Windon, production designer Yohei Taneda, editor Stuart Levy and composer Benjamin Wallfisch contributing to a heightened sense of scale. Principal photography took place in Australia, navigating a pause during the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike before concluding in early 2024.

With Earthrealm’s defenders splintered and Shao Kahn advancing, the sequel appears poised to deliver a more expansive and tournament-driven chapter.
