Sisters Seek Justice in Explosive First Look at ‘Is God Is’
The first official trailer has arrived for Is God Is, the feature directorial debut from playwright and filmmaker Aleshea Harris, ahead of its theatrical release on 15 May 2026.

Presented by Orion Pictures and distributed by Amazon MGM Studios, the R-rated suspense thriller adapts Harris’ acclaimed 2018 stage play into a cinematic exploration of vengeance, faith and fractured family bonds. The film stars Kara Young and Mallori Johnson as twin sisters marked by disfiguring burn scars and bound together by a childhood shaped by violence.
The newly unveiled footage introduces Racine, known as the Rough One, and Anaia, the Quiet One, who are summoned by their bedridden mother and tasked with hunting down the father responsible for their injuries. As the sisters embark on their journey, the mission becomes more than a straightforward act of retaliation. The trailer hints at a heightened, almost mythic tone, where revenge is framed as both destiny and burden.

Young and Johnson anchor the story, supported by a cast that includes Janelle Monáe as the New Wife, Erika Alexander as Divine the Healer, Mykelti Williamson as Chuck Hall the Lawyer and Josiah Cross. Vivica A. Fox appears as Ruby the God, while Sterling K. Brown takes on the role of the Monster, the figure at the centre of the sisters’ reckoning.
Harris, who also wrote the screenplay, brings her own play to the screen with producers Tessa Thompson, Kishori Rajan, Riva Marker and Janicza Bravo. Executive producers include Stacy O’Neil, Nicole King and Kenneth Yu. Cinematography is handled by Alexander Dynan, with editing by Jay Rabinowitz and an original score by Joseph Shirley.
Principal photography began in October 2024 and wrapped in January 2025, marking a significant step for Harris as she transitions from theatre to feature filmmaking. The project was previously developed at A24 before landing at Orion Pictures.
Is God Is will open exclusively in cinemas on 15 May.
