Sadie Katz and Felissa Rose Lead New Horror ‘Texas Nightmare’

The film, directed by Michael Merino, will screen on 20 September at the Eastwood Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles.

Set in the stillness of the Texas Hill Country, the film follows a writer, played by Sadie Katz, who retreats to an isolated home to finish her novel. The quiet soon curdles into something far more sinister as she realises the local community conceals a disturbing secret. With her solitude breached by a cult intent on pulling her into its grasp, the story blurs the line between reality and fiction in a battle for survival.

Merino, who also wrote the script, has described Texas Nightmare as a slow-burn study of paranoia and cult menace. His influences, drawing comparisons to both David Lynch and The Wicker Man, inform a tone that leans as heavily on atmosphere as it does on dread. The director has long been engaged with genre work, following titles such as The Milkman, 502 and the action thriller Acceleration, and earlier this year took home recognition for Clutch at the IFS / L.A. Film Festival.

The cast brings together several well-known names from horror cinema. Katz, recognised for Wrong Turn 6 and her documentary The Bill Murray Experience, not only stars but also serves as co-executive producer. She is joined by Felissa Rose, a cult figure since Sleepaway Camp and still a familiar presence in horror features and Shudder’s The Last Drive-In. Lew Temple (The Walking Dead), James Pratt (The 3 Killer Pigs), Randy Charach (Vanished), Eva Hamilton (Ruin Me) and Rufus Dorsey (Pearl Harbor) round out the central players.

Texas Nightmare is produced by Merino and Charach, with Katz and Rose further extending their presence behind the camera, continuing their support of female-led projects within the genre. The premiere will take place as part of Program 1 in Screen Two at Hollywood Horrorfest, beginning at 1:30pm, with the feature paired with a block of shorts.
