‘The Running Man’ Trailer Teases Glen Powell’s Deadliest Game
Paramount Pictures has unveiled the first official trailer, teaser poster and film stills for Edgar Wright’s long-gestating update of The Running Man, setting social media alight ahead of its 7 November 2025 release in Dolby Cinema, 4DX, ScreenX, Premium Large Formats and IMAX.

The original 1987 blockbuster, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as desperate everyman Ben Richards, transformed Stephen King’s dystopian novella into an all-out satirical bloodsport, and Wright’s version promises to honour that spirit while injecting his trademark kinetic humour and visual flair.
This time, Hollywood’s rising star Glen Powell steps into the role of Richards, a factory worker driven to enter a lethal televised game show when his young daughter’s medical bills spiral out of control. Josh Brolin reprises the role of the charmingly ruthless producer Dan Killian, the architect of a nationwide spectacle in which “Runners” must evade professional assassins for thirty days in order to claim a life-changing cash prize. As Ben defies the hunters and wins hearts, the system tightens the noose and audiences at home feast on every gritty moment.

Wright, whose previous credits include the Cornetto trilogy (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World’s End), the music-fuelled Baby Driver and the time-tossing thriller Last Night in Soho, co-writes the screenplay with Michael Bacall. His kinetic direction promises elaborate set-pieces and a crackling soundtrack that will elevate the media-satire at The Running Man’s core. Producers Simon Kinberg, Nira Park and Wright himself have positioned the film as a globe-spanning spectacle, with on-location shoots and stadium-sized arenas created for the “Deadliest Game Show” audiences.
Powell follows a string of breakout performances, from Hidden Figures to Top Gun: Maverick and the rom-com hit Anyone But You. His blend of action-hero charisma and comic timing suits a character who must outwit hyper-trained killers and an appetite-driven populace. Supporting cast includes William H. Macy as a disillusioned news anchor, Lee Pace as a shadowy network boss, Emilia Jones and Michael Cera as fellow contestants, plus Jayme Lawson, Daniel Ezra, Colman Domingo and Josh Brolin.

The original film, directed by Paul Michael Glaser in 1987 and loosely based on King’s Richard Bachman novella, achieved cult status for its razor-sharp take on voyeurism and authoritarianism. Wright’s reimagining remains faithful to that critique, updating the premise for an age of nonstop streaming, clickbait politics and reality-TV excess. Early reactions to the teaser suggest that the remake will deliver the same adrenaline surge, and social commentary, that made the Schwarzenegger vehicle a touchstone thirty-eight years ago.
We’ll share more news as it comes.
