Jason Returns in Hellish 4K from Arrow Video

One of the wildest, most divisive entries in the Friday the 13th franchise is being resurrected in style this spring, as Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday arrives in a feature-packed, Limited Edition 4K Ultra HD on 19 May 2025. Courtesy of a newly restored dual-cut release, fans can now revisit the gonzo ninth instalment of the series with the sharpest image and most complete behind-the-scenes archive yet.

First unleashed in 1993 and directed by Adam Marcus, Jason Goes to Hell boldly took the franchise into supernatural territory, tossing out the traditional Crystal Lake stalk-and-slash formula in favour of something far stranger. After Jason Voorhees is seemingly obliterated by a SWAT-style ambush in the film’s opening minutes, his spirit lives on, possessing one unlucky soul after another in a relentless, body-swapping quest to be reborn.

The result is a slasher that plays more like a mad science fiction-horror hybrid, gleefully loaded with gore, grotesque transformations, and over-the-top mythology involving Jason’s bloodline and the mysterious dagger that may be the key to finally putting him down for good. Kane Hodder reprises his role as Jason, even performing dual duty as a guard who meets a typically brutal end. The film also features practical effects wizardry from KNB EFX Group’s Howard Berger, Robert Kurtzman and Greg Nicotero, whose creature work remains one of the film’s biggest draws.

The new release includes both the Theatrical and Unrated Cuts in Dolby Vision HDR, with original stereo and 5.1 DTS-HD audio. Bonus material spans multiple commentaries, interviews, and galleries, alongside a foldout poster and reversible sleeve art by Gary Pullin. Newly recorded interviews with key cast and crew members – including special effects creator Robert Kurtzman and actor Julie Michaels – offer fresh insights into the film’s chaotic production and enduring cult status.

Though Jason Goes to Hell may have initially split critics and fans alike with its bold tonal shift and lack of classic Crystal Lake iconography, the film has since found a loyal following. Its off-the-wall premise and unabashed weirdness have made it a curio among slasher die-hards… a VHS-era anomaly that dared to push beyond the mask.

With a release date of 19 May, fans have just enough time to clear a space on their shelves for this addition to their physical media collection.
