‘Novocaine’ Teases High-Stakes Action with a Twist
Paramount has shared the first teaser for Novocaine, an action-comedy starring Jack Quaid and Amber Midthunder that blends high-stakes thrills with dark humour. Directed by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen, the film is set to hit cinemas on March 14, 2025, with its unique premise and charismatic cast positioning it as a standout in the crowded spring release slate.

Quaid plays Nathan Caine, an introverted everyman with a rare genetic disorder that makes him impervious to physical pain. While this condition has kept him isolated for most of his life, it unexpectedly becomes his greatest weapon when his new girlfriend (Midthunder) is kidnapped during a bank heist. With no ability to feel injury, Nathan is forced into action, navigating a series of chaotic, high-octane situations that transform him from an unassuming outsider into an unlikely hero.
The film’s supporting cast includes Ray Nicholson, Betty Gabriel, Matt Walsh, Lou Beatty Jr., Van Hengst, Conrad Kemp, and Jacob Batalon. Written by Lars Jacobson, Novocaine leans into a mix of absurdity and action, taking a comedic approach to the concept of pain immunity, a theme that has been explored in various films but rarely with this level of energy and wit. The teaser, which dropped ahead of the highly anticipated Super Bowl trailer blitz, offers a glimpse into the film’s breakneck action sequences and fast-paced comedy.

Quaid, best known for his roles in The Boys, Scream (2022), and the upcoming sci-fi thriller Companion, continues to establish himself as a leading man in genre films. Meanwhile, Amber Midthunder, fresh off her acclaimed performance in Prey, brings an action-ready presence to the film. Directors Berk and Olsen have previously explored horror-thrillers with Villains and Significant Other, but Novocaine sees them shifting into full-throttle action territory, with Paramount betting on their ability to craft a kinetic and entertaining ride.
With Novocaine landing in a competitive release window, its blend of humour, high-energy stunt work, and offbeat premise could give it an edge. Paramount’s decision to drop the teaser ahead of the Super Bowl underscores confidence in the film’s ability to grab audience attention. Whether Nathan Caine’s pain-free journey to heroism will resonate remains to be seen, but if the teaser is anything to go by, Novocaine is gearing up to deliver a dose of chaotic, no-holds-barred action this March.
