Russell Crowe is returning to the horror genre this summer with The Exorcism, a new supernatural thriller that follows the success of The Pope’s Exorcist. The film will be released in UK cinemas on June 21, 2024, with a North American theatrical release beginning on June 7, 2024.

Directed and co-written by Joshua John Miller, The Exorcism stars Crowe as Anthony Miller, a troubled actor who begins to unravel while shooting a supernatural horror film. As his behavior becomes increasingly erratic, his estranged daughter, portrayed by Ryan Simpkins, starts to question whether her father is slipping back into his past addictions or if something more sinister is at play.

The film boasts an impressive cast including Sam Worthington, Chlöe Bailey, Adam Goldberg, and David Hyde Pierce. This project marks another collaboration between Crowe and the exorcism sub-genre, following his performance in last year’s The Pope’s Exorcist.

The Exorcism was produced by Miramax and Outerbanks Entertainment, with Kevin Williamson serving as a producer. Filmmakers Miller and M.A. Fortin, who co-wrote the script, expressed their excitement about working with Vertical to bring their vision to life. “Vertical has been a great partner in helping us complete and realize our vision for this story. Their level of enthusiasm and support are rare to find,” they said in an official statement.

Vertical partner Peter Jarowey also praised the film, saying, “Joshua has a profound expertise in this genre, and we applaud his creation of a film that reverently nods to classic horror while adding a fresh twist. We want to thank everyone at Miramax for their partnership and are looking forward to bringing the film to theaters nationwide this summer.”

Shudder, AMC Networks’ premier streaming service for horror, thriller, and the supernatural, has acquired pay 1 rights to the film, ensuring that fans will be able to stream The Exorcism after its theatrical run.

With its intriguing premise and stellar cast, The Exorcism looks likely to be a standout horror film of the summer. You won’t want to miss its theatrical release on June 7 in North America and June 21 in the UK.
