Get Ready for Very Slow Burn Horror with “Slotherhouse”

Plaion Pictures is set to release Slotherhouse, an inventive comedy horror film, on major digital download platforms on 12th February. The movie, described by The Guardian as a spectacle where “a sloth stabs a woman to death,” blends dark humor with horror elements in an unconventional narrative.
The film stars British actress Lisa Ambalavanar, known for her roles in Titans and The A List, alongside Sydney Craven from EastEnders and Wolf Blood, and Andrew Horton of Jupiter’s Legacy. Slotherhouse introduces us to Emily Young, a sorority senior obsessed with technology and social media popularity. Emily’s encounter with an exotic pet distributor leads her to adopt a poached pet sloth, Alpha, hoping it will boost her chances of becoming the new sorority house president.

However, things take a macabre turn when the Lambda Omega Omega house becomes the scene of mysterious deaths. Initially oblivious to the cause, Emily and her sorority sisters gradually discover that their sluggish new mascot is behind the murders. The film ramps up the tension as the girls lock themselves in the house to celebrate the presidential election night, only to realize the terrifying truth about Alpha.
Slotherhouse follows the US theatrical release, which garnered critical acclaim. The Guardian highlighted it as a standout in a year full of aggressive animal movies. The premise of the film is as bizarre as it is intriguing, featuring a sloth as nature’s perfect predator, juxtaposed against the backdrop of college life and social ambition.

The film’s concept originated from co-writer Bradley Fowler’s pursuit of the “dumbest idea” he could think of, evolving into a blend reminiscent of Mean Girls, Happy Death Day, and Gremlins. Director Matthew Goodhue, along with writers Bradley Fowler and Cady Lanigan, has crafted a film that promises to be both humorous and horrifying, making innovative use of practical effects inspired by classic horror movies.
Slotherhouse will be available for digital download from 12th February, offering viewers a unique horror-comedy experience. The film’s use of a seemingly innocuous creature like a sloth in a menacing role adds a fresh and creative twist to the genre.
