Fans of iOS horror games (is there really a fan base out there for this?) rejoice because the popular iOS game ‘The Drowning’ could be headed to the big screen. Of course it is. ‘The Drowning’ was released by the Tokyo-based publisher DeNA last year.
Now, I will be the first to admit that I have never even heard about this game until now. I keep my horror gaming to the 360 and my iOS gaming consists of Bejeweled and Mahjong, because that’s how I roll.
The Drowning, however, is nothing like Bejeweled or Mahjong. In fact, it is a first-person shooter centered on an oil rig accident in the Pacific Northwest. Whatever is exposed to the oil that just so happens to wash ashore is transformed into zombified creatures. You, the player, are given the task of blowing away all these horrible and deadly mutations.
Katrin Benedikt and Creighton Rothenberger are set to write the screen adaptation for Radar Pictures. Benedikt and Rothenberger are the two responsible for The Expendables 3 and Olympus Has Fallen scripts. Radar Pictures have been behind many films including The Amityville Horror, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Chronicles of Riddick.
No word yet, however, when fans can expect this film to get off the ground. We will keep you posted on all the latest news on this project.
