Babadook Trailer

As you can tell from the increasing amounts of posts about it, we’re getting tantalisingly close to Frightfest 2014, which generally means there is a whole heap of new horror coming our way.

One of the films deemed horrifying enough to make the grade for this year’s fest is Babadook, a chilling scarytale produced in Australia.

Essie Davis and Noah Wiseman in The Babadook 2013 horror

After the violent death of her husband, Amelia (Essie Davis) is struggling to hold things together as she tries to bring up her troubled six year-old son, Samuel (Noah Wiseman), a son she finds it difficult to love.

When a disturbing storybook called ‘The Babadook’ turns up at their house, Samuel is convinced that the Babadook is a creature that comes to him in his dreams and intends to kill him. Soon he’s hallucinatiing and this makes him even more unpredictable and violent, making things even tougher between him and his mother.

But when Amelia becomes aware of a sinister presence in their home, it soon seems that the thing Samuel has been warning her about could well be real after all.
