‘Employee of the Dead’ Releases Five Horror Tribute Posters as Campaign Nears End

Employee of the Dead is heading into the final days of its Kickstarter campaign with another milestone reached, and the horror-comedy is marking the occasion with a series of exclusive tribute posters celebrating five decades of genre history. Love Horror can exclusively reveal the Scream-inspired design featuring Ellie Raé Winstone, one of five new artworks created by artist Ignacio Mazuecos for campaign backers.

The project passed the £10,000 mark on 18 September and is now entering its final stretch ahead of the Kickstarter closing on Friday 9 October. The tribute-poster series was conceived as part of the film’s £15,000 stretch goal, with the team looking for a way to reward supporters while leaning into their own enthusiasm for horror.

Mazuecos has created five designs paying homage to Rosemary’s Baby, Dawn of the Dead, They Live, Scream and Pearl, with each poster built specifically around Employee of the Dead rather than recycling imagery from the original films.

“As we were defining the rewards for the stretch goals, we took advantage of our love for horror and Halloween being around the corner, so making these posters as tributes to classic and modern horror felt like the best idea,” Mazuecos said.

The artist also stressed that the designs were created entirely from new material.

“While working on these, I made sure to use assets entirely from scratch, so while we pay tribute to the films, everything is brand new,” he explained. “We agreed to do no asset reuse, face-swapping or anything. While they are tributes, these posters are all fresh and original. And needless to say, absolutely no AI.”

The team had originally considered extending the idea further, including a recreation of the famous Freddy Krueger trenchcoat artwork from A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors featuring Nick Helm, but time ultimately ruled that one out. Designs inspired by The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and The Shining were also explored before being dropped when the available material did not come together in the right way.

The newly revealed Scream tribute places Ellie Raé Winstone at the centre of the campaign’s celebration of 1990s horror, with the other four posters only available to view through the Kickstarter.

The campaign is also looking beyond the current milestone. Should Employee of the Dead reach £20,000, the next stretch goal will introduce a “Your Face On Branding” reward, with all Kickstarter backers entered into a raffle. Five winners will become the faces of fictional supermarket Kosti, appearing across products and printed advertising within the film.
