‘Ebenezer’ Trailer Reveals Ti West’s Dark New Take on Scrooge
Christmas is getting considerably darker this November. Paramount Pictures has unveiled a new trailer for Ebenezer, Ti West’s gothic reworking of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, with Johnny Depp stepping into the role of Ebenezer Scrooge for a version that leans heavily into supernatural dread, black comedy and Victorian atmosphere.

Opening exclusively in cinemas on 13 November, the film follows the familiar outline of Dickens’ 1843 novella while promising a more stylised and unsettling interpretation of Scrooge’s journey through the past, present and future.
Depp plays the miserly businessman at the centre of the story, with Arthur Conti appearing as the younger Scrooge. Rupert Grint takes on the role of Bob Cratchit, while Andrea Riseborough plays the Ghost of Christmas Past and Tramell Tillman appears as the Ghost of Christmas Present.
Ian McKellen also features as Jacob Marley, Scrooge’s deceased business partner, with Sam Claflin as Fred, Daisy Ridley as Fred’s wife, Ellie Bamber as Isabel Fezziwig, and Charlie Murphy and Henry Lloyd-Hughes among the wider cast.

Directed by West from a screenplay by Nathaniel Halpern, Ebenezer marks an intriguing shift in scale for a filmmaker closely associated with horror including The House of the Devil, X, Pearl and MaXXXine. Here, West is applying that genre background to one of the most frequently adapted Christmas stories in literary history.
The production also carries major studio backing, with Paramount presenting the film in association with Domain Entertainment. Emma Watts produces through Wattsco, while West, David Reid, Adam Bohling, Stephen Deuters, Jason Forman, Pete Chiappetta, Anthony Tittanegro and Andrew Lary serve as executive producers.
Principal photography began in early 2026, with filming taking place across London, Dublin and locations including The Historic Dockyard Chatham in Kent. Checco Varese serves as director of photography.

The project began its promotional push earlier this year, with Depp presenting footage at CinemaCon before appearing in full Scrooge costume at San Diego Comic-Con. Paramount’s marketing has consistently positioned the film as a version of the story that audiences may recognise in outline, but not necessarily in tone.
The new trailer places even greater emphasis on the ghostly elements surrounding Scrooge, suggesting that West’s film will embrace the darker possibilities already present in Dickens’ original text rather than softening them into more conventional festive fantasy.
Ebenezer opens exclusively in UK and US cinemas on 13 November 2026, it might be the best creepy-yet-festive film we’ve seen in quite some time!
