Originally banned under the UK’s Obscene Publications Act during the Video Nasty scare of the 1980s, Mansion of the Doomed has a storied history. Known under various titles like The Eyes of Doctor Chaney and Massacre Mansion, it was the groundbreaking debut horror feature from Charles Band’s Full Moon Features. This studio became legendary for crafting low-budget horror, sci-fi, and fantasy movies with a high-quality sheen, leading to cult classics like Trancers, Puppet Master, and Demonic Toys. Featuring performances from Richard Basehart, Hollywood legend Gloria Grahame, and horror stalwart Lance Henriksen, the film offers a compelling glimpse into the early days of a daring production studio.

As the 35th title in the 101 Films Black Label series, this release boasts a newly produced documentary about Full Moon Features, presented in a limited-edition slipcase with the original ‘video nasty’ artwork. Additionally, the package includes a special booklet with new analyses of the film: “On Mansion of the Doomed” by filmmaker and critic Chris Alexander, and “The Eye is blind if the mind is absent: The legacy of ocular violence & video nasties within Mansion of the Doomed” by writer Andy Marshall-Roberts.
