‘The Death of Us’ Presents Its World Premiere at Tubi FrightFest

Love and loss collide in The Death of Us, an emotionally driven supernatural horror making its World Premiere at this year’s Tubi FrightFest. The independent British feature marks the directorial debut of Annabella Rich, who also co-wrote and stars in the film, bringing a deeply personal story of trauma into the festival’s First Blood strand.

Set to screen on Saturday 29 August, The Death of Us follows Casey and Danny, a devoted couple whose lives are shattered after the violent loss of their child during a home invasion carried out by a sinister cult. Struggling to survive the aftermath, the pair retreat to the countryside in search of peace, only to find themselves haunted by disturbing visions and an increasingly malevolent supernatural force that threatens to consume both their relationship and their grasp on reality.

Rich plays Casey opposite Chris Mills as Danny, with horror favourite Nicholas Vince, best known for Hellraiser, joining the cast alongside Marta Svetek, whose recent work includes the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise. Johnny Vivash, Francesca Louise-White, Sidney Kean and Melinda Rich complete the principal cast.

Written by Annabella Rich and Chris Mills, the film explores the emotional consequences of unimaginable tragedy through the lens of psychological horror. According to Rich, the story was conceived not simply as a supernatural thriller, but as an examination of what happens when a genuinely loving relationship is placed under impossible strain.

In her director’s statement, Rich explains that while The Death of Us features practical gore and horror conventions, its emotional core remains centred on grief, survival and the ways trauma can reshape reality. She also credits cinematographer Raffaele Nocerino for creating the film’s visual atmosphere, while double Grammy Award-nominated composer David Wright makes his feature film scoring debut with the project.

The Death of Us was independently financed through a combination of crowdfunding and private investment, with more than 300 supporters helping bring the production to completion. Extensive practical make-up effects, prosthetics and in-house prop construction were used throughout filming, reflecting the filmmakers’ commitment to practical craftsmanship.

The feature also represents another milestone for Rich, who has built a growing reputation within the UK independent horror scene through acting and writing credits including Eating Miss Campbell, St. Patrick’s Day Massacre and I Curse This Land. Through Six Foot Under Productions, she continues to develop original genre projects while stepping behind the camera for the first time with this debut feature.
