‘Blackbox: Flight 298’ Brings Terror and Mystery to the Skies This July

A routine domestic flight becomes the setting for escalating terror in Blackbox: Flight 298, the new supernatural thriller from Final Destination 5 director Steven Quale. Ahead of its July release, Signature Entertainment has unveiled the latest look at the film, which traps passengers aboard a commercial airliner as reality begins to fracture around them and an ordinary journey descends into a fight for survival.

Set aboard Vero Airlines Flight 298 travelling from New Orleans to Seattle, the film follows a group of passengers confronted by a series of increasingly inexplicable events. Technological failures, disturbing visions and apparent supernatural forces begin to overwhelm the aircraft, leaving those on board struggling to determine what is real and what may be manipulating them from beyond their understanding.

According to the official synopsis, the situation rapidly deteriorates as alien influences and otherworldly phenomena blur the line between nightmare and reality. With no obvious escape route thousands of feet above the ground, passengers are forced to confront a threat unlike anything they have encountered before.

The project marks Quale’s return to genre filmmaking, a field in which he is well known to horror audiences thanks to his work on Final Destination 5. The filmmaker also directed the disaster thriller Into the Storm and has extensive experience behind the camera on major productions including Avatar and Aliens of the Deep.

Leading the cast is Tom Brittney, best known for his long-running role in Grantchester. He is joined by Holly White, Betsy Blue English, Dane Whyte O’Hara, Kaja Chan and Asa Ali. Additional cast members include Boadicea Ricketts, Ceallach Spellman, Georgina Leonidas, Molly Belle Wright, Hanneke Talbot, Danny Mack and Weronika Rosati.

The screenplay comes from horror writer Stephen Susco, whose previous credits include The Grudge, The Grudge 2, Texas Chainsaw 3D and Hell Fest. The film is based on the short film The Vessel, expanding its central concept into a feature-length thriller.
