‘Death Among the Pines’ Drops Trailer and Delivers Big Chills

A fresh dose of countryside paranoia is heading to screens as Death Among the Pines releases its first trailer and confirms its arrival on Amazon Prime Video in the US. From the team behind this year’s gothic sleeper hit The Baby in the Basket, the new feature shifts from candlelit chapels to storm-lashed isolation, promising a taut, rain-soaked thriller rooted in suspicion, deception and the slow erosion of trust.

Death Among the Pines

The film follows Angela, played by Nicolette McKeown, whose quiet life in a remote cottage is disrupted by one violent night. When a stranger appears at her door seeking shelter from a brutal downpour and claiming his car has failed, she allows him inside with understandable caution. Moments later, a police officer arrives, searching for an escaped criminal. With the storm cutting off all communication and two unknown men trapped inside with her, Angela faces an escalating psychological battle as she tries to determine who is telling the truth and who may be hiding something far more dangerous.

Written by award-winning screenwriter Tom Jolliffe and produced by Gary Collinson, the film reunites several of the creatives responsible for The Baby in the Basket. Nathan Shepka takes centre stage both as director and as Kevin, the stranded visitor whose motives remain increasingly murky as the night unfolds. Stephen Kerr appears as the officer pursuing a fugitive through the surrounding woodland, while Olly Bassi features as Angela’s husband, whose absence fuels the tension inside the house. Additional executive producers include Emmy-winner Kira Reed, Nick Redmond and Scrap’s Sanatan Kadakia.

Death Among the Pines

Set against the backdrop of rural Scotland, Death Among the Pines leans on its environment to heighten the sense of confinement. Dense trees, relentless rain and a farmhouse cut off from the outside world shape the story’s atmosphere, with the countryside becoming a pressure cooker for the characters’ shifting suspicions. The filmmakers acknowledge the influence of classic Hitchcock thrillers, weaving moments of misdirection and veiled intentions through a contemporary indie framework.

McKeown, whose recent credits include Mercy Falls and Damaged, takes on one of her most prominent roles to date, anchoring the story with a performance that carries both the fear and resilience of a character pushed to breaking point. Shepka, meanwhile, extends his dual career as actor and filmmaker, building on his work in Dead Before They Wake. The creative partnership between Shepka and Jolliffe continues to define a distinct pocket of UK indie suspense cinema, with this project expanding their interest in stripped-back, character-focused thrills.

Death Among the Pines

With the newly released trailer offering a glimpse of flickering lights, fractured trust and the unsettling possibility that nothing in the house is as it seems, Death Among the Pines positions itself as a sharp addition to the winter streaming slate. Its mix of storm-bound tension and rural unease makes it a fitting showcase for audiences seeking something intimate, contained and quietly disquieting.
