Sydney Sweeney Stars in Twisted New Thriller ‘The Housemaid’
Lionsgate has released new poster artwork and the trailer for The Housemaid, the upcoming psychological thriller directed by Paul Feig and starring Sydney Sweeney (Immaculate, Euphoria) and Amanda Seyfried (Jennifer’s Body, Mean Girls). Adapted from Freida McFadden’s best-selling novel of the same name, the film is set for theatrical release in the United States on 19 December 2025.

Set against the backdrop of a secluded estate in suburban New Jersey, The Housemaid centres on Millie Calloway, a young woman with a difficult past who takes on a live-in position working for the affluent Winchester family. What begins as a hopeful fresh start soon descends into unease, as Millie finds herself navigating the hidden tensions and undercurrents that flow through the Winchester household.
Sweeney, who also serves as executive producer, leads the film as Millie, a character caught between loyalty, suspicion and survival. Opposite her, Seyfried plays Nina Winchester, the wealthy and enigmatic wife whose carefully curated domestic life begins to fracture under scrutiny. Brandon Sklenar (Drop, 1923) plays Andrew, Nina’s controlling husband, while Michele Morrone appears as the groundskeeper, Enzo, and Elizabeth Perkins joins the cast as the domineering family matriarch.
While best known for directing studio comedies such as Bridesmaids and A Simple Favour, Feig takes a darker turn here, working from a script by Rebecca Sonnenshine. The project marks a departure in tone, though not in precision, with the production leaning heavily into themes of manipulation, secrecy and psychological coercion. Theodore Shapiro, a frequent Feig collaborator, returns to score the film.

Filming took place earlier this year across locations in New Jersey, with production wrapping in March. The project is produced by Hidden Pictures and Pretty Dangerous Pictures, with Todd Lieberman and Laura Fischer producing alongside Feig. Freida McFadden, the author of the original novel, is credited as executive producer.
The Housemaid enters a market already brimming with domestic thrillers but stands apart through its pedigree cast, literary roots and polished aesthetic. Lionsgate will release the film theatrically in the United States, with international distribution details yet to be confirmed.
