Cult Classic Heathers to Debut on Limited Edition 4K UHD

The iconic dark comedy Heathers is set to make a triumphant return with a limited edition 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release on 5th August 2024. This cult classic, which has captivated audiences with its sharp satire and dark humour, will be available through Arrow Films, featuring a comprehensive collection of special features and a stunning new restoration.
Heathers has long been celebrated as a quintessential piece of modern American cinema, renowned for its biting critique of 1980s high school culture. Set at Westerburg High School, the film follows the story of Veronica Sawyer (Winona Ryder, Stranger Things), a bright and popular student who reluctantly becomes part of an elite group of girls known as the “Heathers.” Disillusioned by their cruelty, Veronica finds herself drawn to the enigmatic JD (Christian Slater, True Romance). Their partnership takes a deadly turn when a prank on the clique’s leader, Heather Chandler (Kim Walker), leads to her accidental poisoning, staged as a suicide. As the bodies pile up, Veronica realises JD’s sociopathic tendencies and must confront him in a thrilling climax.

Directed by Michael Lehmann, Heathers pushed the boundaries of the teen comedy genre, infusing it with dark, nightmarish elements. The film’s success is largely attributed to the stellar performances of Ryder and Slater, whose portrayals have become defining roles in their careers.
The upcoming 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release promises a visual and auditory feast, thanks to a meticulous restoration from the original camera negative. Presented in Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible), the film will offer a viewing experience that enhances its vibrant colours and chilling atmosphere. The release includes multiple audio options: the original 1.0 mono, optional stereo 2.0, and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio sound, along with English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
Fans of Heathers will be delighted with the wealth of bonus content accompanying the film. Highlights include:
- An audio commentary by director Michael Lehmann, producer Denise Di Novi, and writer Daniel Waters.
- Lehmann’s Terms, an interview with the director discussing his approach to the film.
