The Omnibus Theatre has announced the full cast and creative team for The Ice at the End of the World, the latest cosmic horror from acclaimed playwright Katy Schutte. The world premiere of this thrilling production is set to run from 24 September to 12 October, with a press night scheduled for Friday, 27 September. Set against the isolated and mysterious backdrop of the Arctic Circle, The Ice at the End of the World explores the lives of a group of artists on a perilous voyage aboard a tall ship. Led by an enigmatic guide, the group is tasked with creating their greatest work, only to find themselves at the mercy of both the harsh natural environment and an ancient force lurking beneath the ice. Directed by Madeline Moore, the production stars Katy Schutte as Wonder, alongside a talented cast that includes Judith Amsenga (as Laura), Eleanor Dillon-Reams (as Alys), and Gian Carlo Ferrini (as Alejandro). Schutte, who also wrote the play, drew inspiration from her own experiences as an artist-in-residence in the Arctic with The Arctic Circle Project in 2022. Her personal journey into the icy expanse of the north serves as the foundation for this eerie and atmospheric exploration of artistic ambition and survival. The play revolves around Alys, a successful poetry translator forced by her publisher to embark on this treacherous voyage, far from the comforts of modern life. As the ship crosses the unforgiving "Devil’s Dancefloor," communication with the outside world is severed, and the artists are left to face not only the physical dangers of the melting ice but the psychological and cosmic threats emerging from the deep. As ancient secrets rise to the surface, the characters must confront their own limits, driven by the desire to create something truly extraordinary—even at the cost of their sanity.
