Kim & Em VS EVIL | Love Horror film reviews and news

A fresh show has entered the film-podcast arena, and it comes armed with sharp wit, deep expertise and a healthy affection for cinematic chaos. Broadcaster and actress Emily Booth has teamed up with film journalist and author Kim Taylor-Foster for Kim & Em VS EVIL, a new series that explores screen villains with intelligence, irreverence and the sort of genre fluency only two lifelong horror enthusiasts can bring. Launching with a roster of infamous antagonists, the podcast digs into what defines a villain, why certain characters endure across generations, and whether the supposed “evil” at the heart of a story truly belongs to the character in question or to the world that shaped them. The pair approach each episode with a mix of humour and thoughtful analysis, examining where blame lies, who drives the chaos on screen and how society’s anxieties often fuel our perception of a film’s darkest figures. The show opened with a heavyweight of creature cinema: Jaws, marking the 50th anniversary of Steven Spielberg’s classic. Rather than simply revisiting the blockbuster’s legacy, Kim and Emily consider whether its Great White antagonist deserves its fearsome reputation, interrogating a half-century of pop-culture mythmaking. Episode two plunges into the sadistic labyrinth of Hellraiser, while the third turns its attention to Fatal Attraction and its enduring cultural debate. Episode four tackles Friday the 13th, with the duo pulling apart the roots of the Voorhees legend. More episodes are on the way, with plans to venture beyond horror into thrillers, superhero fare and new releases. For Emily Booth, whose screen career spans cult horrors Cradle of Fear, Evil Aliens, Doghouse and Shed of the Dead, the podcast marks a return to the space that helped define her career. A familiar face to genre fans thanks to her long stint on The Horror Channel, she brings performer insight, on-set anecdotes and a deeply felt understanding of the films that shaped the UK horror landscape. Her upcoming feature Electric Meat, directed by Dan Schaffer, is set to continue that streak. Kim Taylor-Foster adds decades of journalistic authority, drawing from work with Total Film, Yahoo, IGN, Fandom, the BBC and more. Her interviews with icons such as Tobin Bell and John Carpenter, along with her acclaimed books Why We Love The Matrix and Why We Love Die Hard, showcase a career spent unpicking the DNA of popular cinema. Together, she and Emily fuse academic insight with the exuberance of lifelong fans, creating an atmosphere that is informed but never intimidating. Both hosts emphasise that Kim & Em VS EVIL is a passion project built from scratch, crafted through extensive research, discussion, writing and hands-on technical work. They hope the podcast offers a refreshing, female-led angle on genre classics and contemporary releases, amplifying the subtler questions of morality, societal influence and personal responsibility often overshadowed by spectacle. You can check out the episodes of the show on Amazon Music.
