The Independent Horror Society has opened applications for the latest round of its Creators Fund after the initiative reached its next £1,000 milestone, unlocking a fresh pot of support for independent horror projects across the UK. Applications are now open to IHS Pro members, with the usual one-week window extended until Monday 28 September. The fund is designed to support creators working across horror in a broad range of forms, including filmmakers, writers, playwrights and artists. The scheme is financed through a percentage of profits from selected Independent Horror Society events, screenings, merchandise sales and other activity. Each time the pot reaches £1,000, eligible members are invited to submit projects for consideration. The final decision is then handed to the wider IHS community. Once applications close, all members, including those on free Fan and Creator tiers as well as Pro members, are able to vote on which project receives the money. That democratic structure is central to the fund, with every member receiving an equal say in where the support goes rather than the winner being selected by an internal judging panel. The latest application round arrives as the organisation continues to build out its support for independent genre creators, with the long-term aim of increasing the size of the fund as membership, screenings and other activity grow. Alongside the funding announcement, the Independent Horror Society is also preparing for a special London screening of Snapshot at Genesis Cinema on 24 September. The film has already played sold-out shows in Edinburgh and at FrightFest, and its latest screening will be followed by a Q&A with members of the cast and crew. Set in London in 1888, Snapshot follows an amateur inventor who uses a newly developed moving image machine to document an all-female ghost-hunting society as they investigate the Jack the Ripper murders. Their theory takes the case in a supernatural direction, with the group believing the killings may be the work of something far from human. The screening gives the Society another public-facing event alongside its funding work, combining exhibition with direct support for creators working within the UK horror scene.
