Curse of the Mummy | Love Horror film reviews and news

Victorian London’s fascination with ancient Egypt is about to turn nasty on the South Bank. The London Dungeon is launching Curse of the Mummy, a new Halloween experience inspired by the legend of the so-called “Unlucky Mummy”, with the show running from 17 October to 1 November as part of one of the attraction’s biggest seasonal takeovers. The new production transports guests back to 1889, where an infamous mummy board has just arrived at a London museum delivery bay. What follows draws on the real wave of Egyptomania that swept through Victorian Britain and the darker stories that became attached to imported antiquities. According to the legend, the object’s history became entwined with a string of disasters after four English travellers encountered it during a trip to the mummy pits of Deir el-Bahri in Egypt. Stories later claimed that one traveller was accidentally shot and lost an arm, another suffered financial ruin, while others died in poverty or disappeared. As ownership changed hands, the mythology around the artefact continued to grow, with misfortune repeatedly blamed on the supposed curse. The London Dungeon is turning that story into a three-part immersive theatrical experience, combining live performance with sensory effects and historical characters. Among those guiding guests through the story is Victorian clairvoyant Madame Helena Blavatsky, as the attraction explores the period’s obsession with ancient Egypt, spiritualism and the occult. “This Halloween, it’s a curse we’re up against,” said London Dungeon general manager Catherine Pritchard. “The Curse of the Mummy has been blamed for ruination and death so naturally, we thought let’s bring it to the London Dungeon this Halloween.” She added: “Guests will come face to face with Victorian London’s darkest obsession, ancient Egypt, the occult, and a mummy that really doesn’t like being disturbed.” The event joins the Dungeon’s usual mix of theatrical horror and historical storytelling, with all the other fantastic immersive and very creepy attractions at the iconic scare attraction. Curse of the Mummy is included with standard admission to The London Dungeon, with advance tickets starting from £29 for adults and £23.50 for children. The experience runs at The London Dungeon on London’s South Bank from Saturday 17 October to Sunday 1 November 2026, with tickets available to book now through the attraction’s official Halloween page: thedungeons.com/london/whats-inside/events/halloween/
