A new two-day filmmaking workshop in London is promising to equip horror creatives with the tools to take their indie projects from concept to screen. Titled The Complete Indie Horror Film Roadmap, the course runs on 11 and 12 October and has been developed by the Independent Horror Society in partnership with Greenlit, the UK-based crowdfunding platform for the creative industries. With only 30 seats available, the course is designed to offer a comprehensive overview of the indie horror filmmaking process, with direct instruction from a panel of established professionals. Topics span screenwriting, production, funding, post-production, and festival strategy, with sessions tailored to the distinct challenges of the genre. Unlike broader film courses that often generalise their instruction, this initiative was shaped directly from the feedback of horror writers, directors and producers who have struggled to find genre-specific training. An exciting new filmmaking workshop Confirmed tutors include Jed Shepherd, writer and producer of Host and Dashcam; Jen Handorf, whose production credits include The Borderlands and Prevenge; and Katie Bignell, founder of the festival consultancy Festival Formula. They are joined by Greenlit CEO Peter Storey, horror editor and director Mitch Tolliday, and Independent Horror Society founder Chris Nials, with additional instructors to be announced in the coming weeks. Participants will also learn from Grace O’Keefe, an award-winning writer and performer, and sound designer Patrizio Tamborriello, whose credits include The Last of Us Part II and Starfield. Practical sessions on lighting, equipment choices, crowdfunding, budgeting, and sound design will be presented alongside discussions on horror-specific directing techniques, tropes and audience engagement. Horror filmmaking course Rather than being purely theoretical, the course promises a real-world approach to filmmaking, informed by years of experience across shorts, features, and festival strategy. From shooting on a tight schedule to working with emerging actors, the programme is aimed at providing usable, immediate knowledge rather than abstract principles. The course has been priced at £299, with an option for three-month instalment payments. It is intended for a broad audience that includes aspiring directors, working crew, self-producing writers and early-career producers.
