‘A Game in the Woods’ Launches Globally with VOD and DVD Release
Jinga Films and Danse Macabre have confirmed the worldwide release of A Game in the Woods, a new backwoods horror film written and directed by Mike McCutchen. The title is now available on most major video-on-demand platforms, including Amazon, Apple TV, Google Play, Sky, Plex and Full Moon. A DVD edition has also been released.

The film centres on Ash (Eleanor Newman), who travels with her cousin (Jameson Pitts) and girlfriend (Emily Skeen) to her late grandfather’s remote ranch. The visit is intended as a livestreamed getaway, but the group are soon drawn into a violent ordeal. The land has been repurposed as a hunting ground where human lives are the prize. The killings are overseen by a character known only as The Warden, portrayed by John P. Crowley.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Hostel and The Most Dangerous Game have been cited as creative influences. The latter, based on Richard Connell’s 1924 short story The Hounds of Zaroff, remains one of the genre’s most enduring texts. McCutchen revisits many of its central ideas, relocating them to a contemporary rural setting in which digital spectatorship collides with old-world brutality.

Produced by J.J. Weber, A Game in the Woods had its world premiere at Fantaspoa in Brazil. It went on to screen at Macabro in Mexico, Fantasporto in Portugal and the Romford Horror Film Festival in the UK. It reunites McCutchen with both Weber and Newman, who previously worked with the director on his 2018 feature The Next Kill.
The film arrives at a time when interest in backwoods horror remains high, particularly among independent filmmakers. Defined by its focus on geographic isolation, hostility to outsiders and the collapse of societal norms, the subgenre continues to serve as a platform for exploring themes of vulnerability and control. McCutchen, who is also credited on productions including Alita: Battle Angel, returns here to smaller-scale horror filmmaking rooted in regional menace and survivalist tension.
