Lake Mungo

Presented as a factual documentary Lake Mungo can instantly be compared to Paranormal Activity and The Blair Witch Project however writing it off as just another horror mockumentry would be doing it an injustice it does not deserve.Lake Mungo

Spectacularly simple and frighteningly real Lake Mungo is a chilling and unsettling ghost story that will get under your skin and stay with you long after the credits have rolled.

Written and directed by Australian first time filmmaker Joel Anderson the most impressive achievement of the movie is how real it seems a fact which ups the fright factor of the film to full force.

Pieced together using the language of modern documentaries we all now except and understand with interviews, news footage and the families movies and photos the spiraling complex storyline unfolds slowly and naturally twisting and turning with each new layer of secrets uncovered.

The cast of relative unknown Aussie TV actors are excellent and totally immersed in the characters and their stories which combined with the great direction makes Lake Mungo a very well made and carefully crafted piece of creepy cinema made all the more powerful by its truly real feel.
