Unrestricted Views from Rob Savage Writer and Director of Dawn of The Deaf

2222Love Horror: Tell us about your film?
Rob Savage: Dawn of the Deaf is an apocalyptic horror short, told almost entirely in British Sign Language: When a strange sound wipes out the hearing population, a small group of Deaf people must band together to survive.

Love Horror: How did you get into making horror movies?
Rob Savage: I’ve been obsessed with horror movies since I first snuck a VHS of Day of the Dead into my house at age 12. From that moment on I started making ketchup-blood horror films starring me and my friends, and have slowly graduated to bigger and better (I hope!) productions.

Love Horror: What is your view on horror in 2016 and how would you change it?
Rob Savage: I think we’re seeing some incredible horror films this year – Raw, Under the Shadow, Girl With All the Gifts – the only thing I want to see from horror cinema is a Dawn of the Deaf feature!

Love Horror: What is your favourite horror film and why?
Rob Savage: The Innocents – over 50 years old and still smart, subversive and utterly terrifying.

Love Horror: If Hollywood came knocking and gave you anything you wanted what movie would you make and who would it star?
Rob Savage: At this moment, I’d love to make a feature version of Dawn of the Deaf, with enough of a budget to really pull of the apocalyptic scale of the idea. For this, I’d love to have the freedom to search far and wide and cast some exciting new Deaf actors. Outside of Deaf talent, I’ve always wanted to work with Manhunter’s Tom Noonan, who blows me away in everything he’s in.

Dawn of The Deaf plays at Love Horror’s Currated Night at the Unrestricted View Horror Film Festival at 7.30pm on 1st November. Find out more and book your tickets Here https://www.unrestrictedview.co.uk/uvhff-lovehorror-presents-shorts/
