Tell us about your film?
Mrs. Wiltshire is the second part of our Dark Ditties series, which will eventually be 6-epsiodes. Each episode is its own separate story but there are still links between them and they are layered with Easter eggs. Mrs Wiltshire is a dark, psychological horror that tells the story of an old woman trapped in her home by the spirit of her dead abusive husband. She is torn between staying in the house and burying the secrets of her past or leaving with her son Tony. This is a story of guilt, family secrets and the terrors that go on behind closed doors.
How did you get into making horror movies?
Neil, Adam and I have always been fans of horror and film and after making a series of documentaries such as Leviathan: The Story of Hellraiser and You’re so cool, Brewster! The Story of Fright Night, we decided to make our own narrative films with the first being Dark Ditties Presents ‘The Offer’ in 2017.
What is your view on horror in 2018 and how would you change it?
Horror in 2018 is monopolised by Blum House and Home Invasion movies. Blum House is not a bad thing at all, they have really put horror back on the map and their line-up has been impressive and of excellent quality. The home invasion genre seems to be in vogue now and it can become tiresome. However, the good thing about horror is the genre can change fast and never gets old!
What is your favourite horror film and why?
My favourite horror will always be The Return of the Living Dead, released in 1985 and directed by the late, great Dan O’Bannon. I think it is the perfect zombie movie with the right level of horror, suspense, comedy and gore and has an excellent soundtrack. The film has a great cult following and is now finally held in high esteem by horror fans.
If Hollywood came knocking and gave you anything you wanted what movie would you make and who would it star?
Selfishly I would like to expand our Dark Ditties world and not only keep my original cast but also have the likes of Steve Coogan, Mark Gattis and Ian McKellen involved. We are already blessed to have an amazing ensemble/company of actors involved with the Ditties and I’m really looking forward to releasing Episode 3: Finders Keepers and Episode 4: The Witching Hour.
