Unrestricted Views from Bob Pipe Director of The Monster & The Baby’s Crying
Love Horror: Tell us about your film?
Bob Pipe: ‘The Monster’ tells the story of an iconic monster from the golden era of horror movies who has been persuaded to star in a modern day slasher movie. He’s an old fashion gentleman in a world he doesn’t understand. But it’s really a love story with comedic moments… a horror rom-com I suppose.
Love Horror: How did you get into making horror movies?
Bob Pipe: My background is in comedy but I’m a huge horror fan and wanted to the use the experience I have in comedy to make people jump instead of laugh. Since making ‘The Monster’ I’ve made a one minute microhorror that will also be playing the Unrestricted View Horror Festival.
Check out my sci-fi comedy web series ‘The Day They Came To Suck Out Our Brains!’ which stars Warwick Davis and huge cast of comedians: tinyurl.com/Brains-Playlist
Love Horror: What is your view on horror in 2016 and how would you change it?
Bob Pipe: Less gore, more heart please.
Love Horror: What is your favourite horror film and why?
Bob Pipe: ‘An American Werewolf in London’ because it blends loads of genres into one. I love the mix of comedy, horror, romance… with a cool soundtrack, great performances and awesome special effects by Rick Baker.
My second favourite horror movie is John Carpenter’s ‘The Thing’.
Love Horror: If Hollywood came knocking and gave you anything you wanted what movie would you make and who would it star?
Bob Pipe: Ooooo. Good one. I’d like to reboot Larry Cohen’s ‘The Stuff’ – it’s a great premise but poorly executed. Apparently Larry didn’t stick to the script and relied heavily on impro. I reckon I could make a really funny comedy *slash* horror *slash* action *slash* sci-fi epic with a serious message in the vein of John Carpenter’s ‘They Live!’. One day. Fingers crossed. Can I have some money please?
